Why am I getting the “Your organization's data cannot be pasted here” message?

I am trying to add some work data from one Excel file to another and am getting this message again and again. What does it mean?

The message “Your organization’s data cannot be pasted here” usually means your company’s security policy is preventing work data from being copied into that particular Excel file or application. This is commonly controlled by Microsoft Intune or Microsoft 365 data-loss prevention (DLP) policies.

Try pasting into another approved work location, such as a company-managed Excel file or OneDrive/SharePoint. If it still doesn’t work, contact your IT administrator, because you generally cannot override an organization-enforced restriction yourself.

I've seen this message if an organization has security measures to safeguard information. The system can prevent users from copying company information to other sites, such as ChatGPT. If you need to share something work-wise, I would request your IT team to know about the approved way of sharing it, rather than going around the block to share for your device.

The message indicates that your organization has likely set a rule that you can't paste some information into another application. This is typically done to prevent accidental disclosure of private data from a company. If the text should be work related, find out from your company policy or IT staff as they will know what information you can paste.

It's likely not a ChatGPT mistake. Your organisation may have security software which identifies company information and prevents it from being pasted on another site. I would not attempt to get around the warning, particularly with sensitive information, and would reach out to my administrator if I felt it was a mistake.
