Being accused doesn’t automatically mean you’ve committed benefit fraud. Usually, the DWP or another relevant authority will investigate the circumstances and may ask you questions or invite you to an interview under caution. Your benefits can potentially be stopped while they investigate. If they find an overpayment, you may have to repay it, and depending on the circumstances, there could also be a financial penalty or prosecution.
