Is there a way I can check how much time my son is spending on his phone? He just got a phone for his 15th birthday, and I want to make sure he doesn't overspend his time on it.

How do I check screen time on Android?

On Android, you can check screen time using Digital Wellbeing option found on settings.
1. Open Settings → Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
2. Tap on screen-time chart to see total usage, time spent on individual apps, number of unlocks, and notifications.
3. Since this is your son’s phone, a better option is Google Family Link. On your phone, open Family Link → select your son → Screen time to see his total screen time and app activity.
4. You can also use Family Link to set daily screen-time limits, app-specific limits, and downtime schedules.
However, for a 15-year-old, Family Link is the better choice because you can monitor and manage screen time from your own phone rather than checking his device manually.

The simplest method is to go to the Settings of your Android phone and type Digital well-being. Tap Digital Well-being and parental controls to view your screen time, app usage and how many times you unlocked your phone. Most phones will have a slightly different menu depending on the version of Android and manufacturer of the phone.

First I would look for Digital wellbeing and parental controls in settings. After opening it, I can view the time that I've spent on my apps for the day, and then can tap on the chart to learn more about the time I spent on each app. It's handy because I can see on a dime which applications are sucking up the most time, without having to install an additional application every day.

There is no need to use a third-party app for most Android phones as they have an inbuilt screen time feature. Navigate to Settings-Digital wellbeing and parental control-View usage chart. Total screen time, app activity, notifications and unlocks can often be seen, so you can gain a better understanding of how your phone is being used throughout the day on the device.
